Hi Steffy,
our puppy is so wonderful (we haven’t agreed on a name yet though). He had a great first night and slept straight through! Our existing dog, Boomer, barked all night in honor of the new arrival thoughl! We have a large play pen (wire fencing) set up in the family room to keep him safe so that is where he sleeps – it has his bed, crate, food, water and a puppy pad. He hasn’t eaten much yet, but I think he’s just too excited. Do you have any helpful tips about Boomer and the new puppy interacting? Boomer is totally wild around him. We always have Boomer on a leash and usually have the puppy in our lap where he’s relatively safe when we let them interact, but Boomer is very rough – he licks the puppy like crazy and nudges him and is very mouthy with him, plus his paws are so strong in comparison to this little puppy that we are scared to death that one playful move by Boomer with his mouth or his paws would kill him. (The puppy is not at all scared, in fact he tries to play with Boomer) We’ve been giving them limited, closely supervised time together, but Boomer has been so difficult that he spends most of his time outside now (which is not exactly the way to convince him this new puppy is a great thing for him!). Any suggestions about how to let them interact that is safe for the little guy, but not so frustrating for Boomer? Thank you! Elizabeth
